Horse Show & Competition Cost Calculator

Plan what a show will really cost — entries, travel, horse care, overnight stays and kit — whether it's your first local show or a multi-day affiliated event. Totals update as you type.

How to use it

  1. Start with Quick Estimate: horses, classes, entry fee, distance and food.
  2. Switch to Detailed Budget for itemised class entries, registrations, extra fees, stabling, overnight costs and the equipment checklist. Your selected entry method and all figures are retained in Quick Estimate.
  3. Use the figures from your event schedule — the starting numbers are only examples.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to enter a horse show?

It depends on the show. Entry fees are usually charged per class, and many events add other charges such as registration, first-aid levies, parking or stabling. Travel, food and any kit you need to buy often add more than the entry itself. Use the calculator with the figures from your event schedule.

What equipment do I need for my first show?

It varies by discipline and by event rules. The checklist suggests common items, such as an approved helmet, suitable tack and a passport. Always check the schedule and rules for your class.

How is the fuel cost worked out?

The calculator doubles your one-way distance, multiplies by return journeys and adds any additional mileage. It divides total miles by UK imperial MPG, multiplies by 4.54609 litres per gallon and then by fuel price per litre. Professional transport uses an agreed fixed or per-mile charge instead of fuel and vehicle hire. Shared transport shows each participant's share without reducing the full event cost.

What is the difference between cash required and the repeat-event cost?

Cash required includes attendance, contingency, equipment purchases and annual registrations payable now. The repeat-event estimate excludes one-off equipment, one-off registrations and annual payments already made. Indicative annual-fee allocations are shown separately and are never added to cash required.

Is my budget saved?

You can save it in this browser and export a backup file. Nothing is sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes saved estimates unless you have exported them.
